How to write a Mersin 10, Turkey address
Every address in Northern Cyprus (TRNC) ends the same way: town and postcode, then Mersin 10 – TURKEY on the final line. That line does not say where you live. It says how the item travels — international mail for the island is routed through Turkey.
Below: the format line by line, a copyable example, the six mistakes that get parcels returned, and which senders accept this format and which reject it.
Why it exists
"Mersin 10" is a routing marker, not a town
Having Mersin in your address does not mean your parcel is going to Mersin. That line tells the international postal system that the item is to be transferred onward to the island.
International mail and parcels for Northern Cyprus are routed through Turkey. An item reaches the sorting point at Mersin, crosses to the island by sea, and is delivered by the TRNC postal service. Mersin 10 is the name of that transfer — a routing code, not a place you live in.
Two practical consequences follow. First: without that line the item cannot be routed at all. Second, and more often misunderstood: this is a postal route, not a customs status. The word "TURKEY" on the last line does not make the shipment a domestic one. North Cyprus is a separate customs territory, and anything entering the island goes through an import process regardless of how the address was written.
The common misreading: "If I write Mersin 10, it won't go through customs." It does not work that way. The address format determines the route. It does not determine what is declared or which process applies. Confusing the two is the single most common reason a parcel sits waiting on the island.
Step by step
The address, line by line
Six lines, narrowest to widest, with the routing line always last.
Address structure
Line 1
Recipient's full name. For a business, company name first, contact person underneath.
Line 2
Street, house and flat number. Include the site or building name if there is one.
Line 3
Area or district. Delivery on the island runs largely on area names — do not leave this blank.
Line 4
Town and postcode. Kyrenia (Girne), Nicosia (Lefkoşa), Famagusta (Gazimağusa), Iskele, Guzelyurt, Lefke. TRNC postcodes start with 99.
Line 5
Mersin 10 – TURKEY. The last line. Nothing goes below it.
Line 6
Phone in international format. +90 5xx xxx xx xx — this is the number the courier calls on the island.
Example address
Fictional
Ayse Demirel Zumrut Sokak No: 12, Flat 3 Karakum Girne 99300 Mersin 10 – TURKEY Tel: +90 533 000 00 00
The name, street and number above are an example. Postcodes vary by area, not just by town — confirm yours against the TRNC postal service's own list. Where a system will not accept Turkish characters, write town names in plain Latin: Girne, Lefkosa, Gazimagusa, Iskele.
Two extra lines for business deliveries
For a shipment addressed to a company, put the registered company name at the top and a direct phone number for the contact person at the bottom. On a personal parcel these two lines look like decoration; on a commercial shipment they decide who signs for it.
Mistakes
Six mistakes and what each one costs you
All of them are fixable. The problem is that most are noticed only after the parcel is already moving.
| Mistake | What happens | Correct form |
|---|---|---|
| Writing "Cyprus" in the country field | The item goes to the south of the island and is usually returned to sender. | Country field Turkey, last line Mersin 10 – TURKEY. |
| Entering "Northern Cyprus" or "TRNC" as the country | Address validation does not recognise it and the form refuses to save. | Keep it in the town line instead: Girne, Lefkosa, Gazimagusa. |
| Treating Mersin 10 as the town and using a mainland Mersin postcode | The item stops in Mersin and never transfers to the island. | The postcode is the TRNC one, starting with 99, on the same line as the town. |
| Leaving the postcode out | The item reaches the island but the delivery area is unclear, so it is delayed. | Look your area code up once and store it with the address. |
| Putting "Mersin 10" in the middle of the address | Sorting reads the final line; a routing line buried mid-address is not read as one. | Always the last line. Nothing below it except the phone number. |
| Writing the phone in local format (0533…) | The delivery driver on the island cannot reach you and the delivery is held. | International format: +90 5xx xxx xx xx. |
Five of these six happen in the address field and one in the phone field. Setting the address up correctly once and saving it is safer than retyping it per order.
Acceptance
Who accepts this format and who does not
The Mersin 10 format was designed for the postal system. A shop's checkout form is a different thing, and most of them are not expecting that line at all.
| Channel | Mersin 10 line | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| International post and parcels (TRNC postal route) | Required | Without it the item cannot be routed. This is what the format was made for. |
| Turkish courier companies' TRNC services | Own form | Handled as an international shipment. The courier uses its own address fields, and where the item is inspected on arrival the recipient is asked for authorisation and for the official payments. |
| Global marketplaces and international retailers | Often rejected | Address validation does not recognise the line, so the address will not save. This is not a fault of the retailer — the system simply does not expect this country/route combination. |
| Turkish marketplaces (province/district dropdowns) | Cannot be entered | There is no TRNC option in the dropdown and no free-text field. The delivery address has to be inside Turkey. |
| Get2Cyprus | Not needed | The seller is given our address in Turkey. You give us your island address in its ordinary form; the crossing, the import process and the final delivery are ours. |
Get2Cyprus is not an online shop. We do not sell or hold stock. We buy from the seller in Turkey on your behalf, handle customs on both sides through our own brokers, and deliver to you in Northern Cyprus.
Frequently asked
Six questions about the Mersin 10 address
Not a copy of the general FAQ on the home page — these are about the address format only.
M-01Is my address in Cyprus or in Turkey?
Your address is in Cyprus. The Mersin 10 – TURKEY line marks the transfer point the item passes through, not where you live. The postal service delivers it to Kyrenia, Nicosia, or whichever town you are in.
The confusion comes from the line ending in "TURKEY". That word is routing information; it does not redefine the country of the address.
M-02If I write "Mersin 10", does the parcel count as domestic and skip customs?
No. The address format and the customs process are two separate things. Northern Cyprus is a separate customs territory; goods entering the island go through an import process no matter how the address is written.
The address line describes the route. It does not describe what is declared, which documents are produced, or how the process runs. Parcels that sit waiting on the island are usually the ones where these two were confused.
M-03An online shop will not accept my address. What now?
First look at which kind of form you are dealing with. If there is a free-text address field, the Mersin 10 line can usually be entered and saved. If it is a province/district dropdown on a Turkish site, there is no TRNC option and nothing to work around.
In the second case three routes remain: find a delivery address inside Turkey, use parcel forwarding, or hand the purchase and the import to someone who does it end to end. We set out the differences between them in a comparison table on our Turkish-language page about ordering from Trendyol.
M-04Where do I find my postcode?
TRNC postcodes are five digits beginning with 99, and they vary by area rather than by town. There is no single code for "Kyrenia" — the centre and the surrounding areas can differ.
Take the code from the TRNC postal service's own postcode list; lists circulating on forums can be out of date. Look it up once and save it with your address.
M-05Do I use the same address for a courier company?
Courier shipments to the TRNC are booked on the company's own form and handled as international shipments. Including the Mersin 10 line does no harm, but it is not enough on its own: the company wants recipient name, phone and the island address in its own field layout.
The part worth knowing: if the shipment is inspected on arrival, the recipient is the party dealt with. The courier will ask you for authorisation and for the official payments before completing delivery. Moving a box and taking on the import process are not the same job.
M-06Do I need this address when I send you a request?
No. The address given to the seller is ours, in Turkey, so you never deal with the Mersin 10 line. You give us your delivery address on the island in its ordinary form — street, area, town, phone.
The goods arrive at our address in Turkey, are consolidated, cleared for export and then imported through our own customs brokers, cross to the island and are delivered to you. End to end that runs 3–7 days, and there is no minimum — a single item is fine.
Before you order
- Our minimum service fee is 100 USD. The fee varies with product type, number of items and volume, but it does not go below that figure. For a single small order, do the sums first — combine several items into one shipment and the fee spreads across the whole order.
- Invoices are issued in the name of Get2Cyprus. If you place the order yourself, enter our company details in the invoice fields at checkout; we send you those details when we reply to your request. Most sellers will not change an invoice after the order is placed, so enter them from the start. When we do the buying, this is handled for you.
